THE SIX KEY TENETS OF THE P-TECH MODEL IN ACTION OF P-TECH HEALTHCARE

P-TECH Healthcare’s public partners are the Baltimore City Public School System and Baltimore Community College. Our private partners are John Hopkins University and Medicine, University of Maryland, Baltimore and Kaiser Permanente. These partnerships allow us to provide students with the academic, career and social emotional support to be leaderss in the healthcare industry.

P-TECH Corporate Partners are committed to five major areas of support for the P-TECH Healthcare school:

1)      Mentorship: All students have the opportunity to be matched with academic and professional mentors. Academic mentors provide tutoring and studying support for high school and college courses, and Professional mentors serve as guides, recommenders and role models to support students from transitioning to from college to workforce in healthcare careers. There are currently over 85 academic and professional mentors serving our students.

2)      Internships: All students have the opportunity to participate in a paid, 5 to 6 week summer internship with one of our partner sites as a way to gain valuable work experience, as well as an pipeline to future employment after graduation. P-TECH has seen it that over 20 bright students have participated in industry internships.

3)      Workplace Learning Experiences: Corporate partners provide students with opportunities to hear from leaders in various healthcare fields in the form of on-site and virtual speakers and hands-on activities. Monthly workshops focused on professionalism and career readiness are provided for all grade levels, including Year of Discovery events for 9th graders introducing them to the P-TECH career tracks and hosted by healthcare professionals.

4)      First-In-Line Job Opportunities: Upon graduating from P-TECH with their AA degrees, corporate partners commit to allowing students the opportunity to interview for eligible jobs within their organizations, giving them a first-in-line opportunity for employment.
